Slide Ranch Master Plan

AGRARIAN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION ON THE MARIN COAST

The Slide Ranch, situated on a historic coastal dairy ranch within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, provides Bay Area youth with a place to connect to nature, farming and food. Rana Creek partnered with Mark Cavagnero and Associates to create a revised Master Plan to serve the organization’s desire to maximize educational, interpretive, recreational, staff and visitor-serving resources; promote scientifically-informed agrarian and coastal landscape stewardship; integrate sustainable infrastructure for renewable energy, water conservation, and wastewater; improve accessibility and circulation; and optimize views in its stunning location on the Marin coastline. Sensitive attention to the site’s soils, geology, slope, aspect, water resources, ecology, microclimates, trail connectivity, and views informed the best locations for a new education center, organic demonstration gardens, a barn and creamery, pasture, private residential space and commons, staff offices, multipurpose event space, restoration areas, trails, signage, campgrounds, and sustainable infrastructure for renewable energy, rainwater collection, and biological wastewater treatment.
