South San Jose Police Station

Civic Living Roof

When the City of San Jose decided to install its first living roof, they came to Rana Creek. Rana Creek designed the living roof and acted as consultant for ecological landscaping and sustainable stormwater management in collaboration with RossDrulisCusenbery Architecture Inc. Our design focus on ecosystem services contributes to water quality, energy use, wildlife habitat and cultural values. By maximizing vegetation, we provide water catchment, filtration and storage within the living roof, providing value-added return on financial investments through reduced stormwater infrastructure. Installation of the two living roofs was made simple by Rana Creek’s patented Biotray system of pre-grown plants in biodegradable coconut coir trays. The plants were delivered to the site and easily installed by the contractor. Rana Creek contract grew all the California native plants at our Native Plant Nursery in Carmel Valley.
